The New Preacher
10 / 30 / 2012 • Gary Waddell • iamnotashamed.com
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? (Rom 10:15)
He’s 28 and eager – to preach from his new church
He’ll make a difference in this world – and he won’t have, to search
For what he’s going to do and say – he has it all planned out
He’ll build the biggest church in town – no one, can stop him now
He just left a seminary – with knowledge over-flowing
He’ll make some dough, rain or snow – his church will keep on growing
A music man is in his plans – to keep the people jumping
With his modern version, in his hand – the pulpit he’ll be thumping
"Jesus Rocks, yeah yeah . . "
With the new and upbeat music – the congregation won’t be lonely
“I’ll pack ‘em in, fill every seat – standing room, here only!”
God is good, repeated 30 times – and displayed upon the wall
They’ll hear that ‘rockin’ guitar sound’ – from the basement through the halls
The ‘fuddy duddy’ old hymns – that young folks, don’t care to hear
Can be played at night at least once a month – to keep the old folks near
A new car he’ll be a buyin’ – maybe a new van for his wife
Tax write offs he’ll have plenty – a Mercedes, leased for life
And after he preaches a few years – and his name becomes a great one
He’ll be a looking for a bigger place – perhaps a football stadium
He’ll buy a jet, like Copeland – to go there, and back again
Maybe get a TV special – 6 pm on TBN
And when this life is over – all his accomplishments accrued
He’ll meet a fearful Lord above – who’ll say, who? “I never knew you”
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate,
saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you
(2 Cor 6:17).
