THE BIG GUY

But I am the LORD thy God
(Isaiah 51:15a)
Hearing it again this morning, and it caused me to cringe. “I put my faith in the ‘big guy’ upstairs”. We have been told over the years that we make too big a deal about the phrases we hear some say and the ways that people speak when talking about or referring to ‘the LORD our God’. Some of these are “the big guy, man upstairs, big daddy, my man" (pointing up) and many other irreverent terms. God is not a man (Numbers 23:19) (John 4:24). I assume that those who speak these phrases mean no harm.
There are many with more Bible knowledge than I have, and much has been written about the phrase “I am the LORD” however, we all should understand this: GOD said it. I am the LORD thy God is versed exactly that way over 300 times in the KJV Bible and over 2000 times in other ways. This is GOD speaking to us letting all know who He is. He is The LORD. When I received Christ as my Savior and Lord many decades ago (John 1:12), I stopped using the term “oh my g*d” (which should never be used unless one is calling upon Him). God let Ezekiel know (Ezek 13:9b), Isaiah (Isa 51:15a), Moses (Ex 6:2), and hundreds more. In fact He is letting us all know today. In other words, if you haven't heard it before, you are reading it now. Jesus, who is God in the flesh (John 1:1-3) says He is the "beginning and the end" (Rev 22:13).
Without going in to all of the reasons that LORD is capitalized in the O.T., we know that LORD emphasizes His Lordship. He is the LORD and we will meet Him some day.
Commit the last five words in this verse to memory:
“Prepare to meet thy God” (Amos 4:12).
